Sensors by industry: applications & solutions
The right sensor choice depends heavily on the industry, because every environment makes its own demands on protection rating, material and durability. This section shows typical applications and what matters in each industry.
Machine and plant building
Machine building is dominated by position sensing and end-position detection. Rugged inductive sensors and cylinder sensors monitor movements and positions, while encoders capture angle and speed. High switching frequencies, wear-free operation and a housing that fits the machine all matter here.
Food and packaging industry
Here, hygiene and washdown resistance count. Sensors often have to meet IP69K for high-pressure cleaning and be made of durable materials such as stainless steel. Optical sensors and capacitive sensors handle object detection and level control, while ultrasonic sensors reliably detect transparent packaging too.
Logistics and conveyor technology
In conveyor systems, the focus is on fast, reliable object detection over a distance. Optical sensors and light barriers count and position conveyed goods, while radar sensors and ultrasonic measure distances even in dusty conditions. To identify individual objects, RFID is used.
Process engineering
With liquid and gaseous media, pressure, temperature, flow and level sensors are central. Media compatibility, accuracy and a signal that suits the control system are decisive. To find out which solution fits your process, the quickest route is the AI advisor or a personal consultation.
